Extruded Scleral Buckle

A scleral buckle is a piece of silicone rubber that is sutured to the sclera to indent the wall of the eye as part of an operation to repair retinal detachment. Sometimes the silicone rubber piece erodes through the conjunctiva and can become infected. In such cases the scleral buckle must be removed which brings with it the risk of retinal redetachment.
