Age Related Macular Degeneration - Large Drusen
Please look at the Normal Fundus photo first for comparison. Drusen, the metabolic waste material deposited under the retina in macular degeneration, can be small or large. Larger drusen are associated with conversion to wet macular degeneration more frequently than small drusen. This eye has very large drusen. Drusen with fuzzy borders are more frequently associated with conversion to wet macular degeneration than drusen with sharp borders. The drusen in this eye have sharp borders.
