Age Related Macular Degeneration - Drusen
You should look at the Normal Retina photo first for comparison. The yellow spots in the retina are called drusen. These are collections of waste material under the retina. In age related macular degeneration, wastes are not disposed of properly. In nonsmokers, drusen of this degree would lead the ophthalmologist to recommend the use of a vitamin such as Ocuvite Preservision (see the article on Diet, Vitamins, and Retinal Disease under the Information section of the website).
