Choroidal Melanoma - Large Peripheral
Please look at the Normal Retina photo first so that you can see the difference in this case. This patient came to medical attention because of complaints of light flashes. An optometrist examined him and told him he had a retinal detechment, whence he was sent for consultation. In fact, he had this large peripheral tumor and had secondary cystoid macular edema, or swelling of the macula. This tumor was treated with a radioactive Iodine 125 plaque (so - called brachytherapy).
