Cotton Wool Spots Unknown Etiology
The images above show cotton wool spots in both eyes. The patient has a history of diabetes and hypertension both of which appear to be under good control in the past year. The patient does not have chronic signs of hypertensive retinopathy. Due to her past history of uveitis, the cotton wool spots may indicate a retinopathy related a collagen vascular disease such as lupus or scleroderma. The patient was asked to follow up with her primary care provider for further screening of a collagen vascular disease or rheumatologic disease.
