Von Hippel - Lindau Syndrome, Optos Photo
This is an Optos wide-angle fundus photograph of a new emerging retinal capillary hemangioma in the right eye of a 46 year old woman. She has von Hippel-Lindau syndrome and has been monitored since 2005 with a number of retinal capillary angiomas treated with laser or cryoablation. In the optos image the red, circumscribed angioma is small with feeding capillaries that have not yet expanded in size (black arrow). Panretinal photocoagulation was the treatment of choice to prevent further growth of this angioma. Other manifestations in the patient include renal cell carcinoma and central nervous system hemgioblastomas requiring neurosurgical excision.
