Congenital Hypertrophy of the Retinal Pigment Epithelium with RPE Lacuna
These are images from a 24-year-old female with congenital hypertrophy of retinal pigment epithelium (CHRPE). CRPE is a benign of the retinal pigment epithelium characterized by flat hyperpigmented regions and some depigmented subregions (lacunae). CHRPE lesions are often larger and more pigmented than nevi. The pigmented lesion can be seen on the fundus photograph adjacent to the optic disc (yellow arrows). The blue bracket highlights a region of RPE atrophy allowing transmission of the OCT illuminating beam to the underlying choroid.
