Bilateral Congenital Hypertrophy of the Pigment Epithelium
These are the fundus photographs of a 9 year old asymptomatic boy with 20/25 visual acuity in both eyes. Aside from the needed for a refractive correction he had no eye complaints. The lesions are deep to the neurosensory retina and block choroidal background fluorescence on fluorescein angiogram. In the top two panels the red free photographs shows many such lesions bilaterally. This case has more than the typical case. In the bottom two panels, the fluorescein angiogram is shown. The lesions are beneath overlying retinal vessels and block the underlying choroidal fluorescence.
