Bullous retinoschisis - OCT

This OCT image taken from the same eye of the patient shown in the image entitled "Bullous Retinoschisis" shows the anatomic situation well. In the left hand monochromatic fundus image, the retinoschisis cavity is indicated by the flesh arrows. The OCT line scan shown on the right corresponds to the horizontal green arrow shown in the left panel. In the right hand panel, the vitreous cavity is to the right (part of it is encircled by the purple arrow). The inner wall of the retinoschisis cavity is indicated by the yellow arrow. This thin wall is composed of the nerve fiber layer of the retina. The retinoschisis fluid is found to the left of the inner wall (partly encircled by the light green oval). The outer retina (orange arrow) is attached to the retinal pigment epithelium. By contrast, in a retinal detachment there would be fluid between the outer retina and the retinal pigment epithelium. Look at the image "Retinal Detachment - OCT" under the Disease "Retinal Detachment".
