Development of Lamellar Macular Hole
These OCTs separated by 4 years show the development of a lamellar macular hole. In the image from 2010 the vitreous is exerting traction on the macula (red arrows). In the image from 2014 a plug of tissue has been pulled away by the vitreous (orange arrow), leaving a lamellar macular hole (yellow arrow). Unlike the situation with full thickness macular holes, surgery is generally not useful in treating lamellar macular holes.
